A Long Walk to Water

In Socila Studies class we started reading a fascinating book titled A Long Walk to Water. So far my group and I is 8 chapters into the book and some deep events has happened. Right Now, Salva has been walking to a better place because a war broke out from the recent days, and he still can't find his family since the war broke out when he was at school. Salva has joined a group that is heading to the country of Sudan, the process of going there was hard, he had lost his friend during that time. The good new was that, his uncle found him so Salva still has someone to look out for him. I am wondering do you think that Salva will retreat back into his country to find his family or just keep on going with the group?

Tennis On The Moon

In science class we are investigating gravity and how the force of gravity changes on different objects in the universe.  We were asked to write about how our favorite sport would be played differently on the moon.  Here are my ideas about how tennis would be played on the moon.  

          Being in space is an unexplainable experience and everyone would want to go there, if there was an opportunity to go. It would be a greater experience if you were able to play your favorite sport on the moon with your mate(s). But as always, there are some exceptions that come into play.

              You would not possibly play by the same rules and other characteristics that a certain kind of sport have. I am gonna talk about a  historic game called tennis, which was invented in the 12th century.

             To start off, from our prior knowledge, tennis uses a racket to hit the ball to the other side of the court. You hit the ball, and depending on how much power you put in, it will either go fast, or slow. The problem is that, for example you hit the ball 15 meters from where you are. The half of  tennis court is about 24 meters, if you round it out to the nearest whole number. It only has 9 more meters to reach the other baseline. If you multiply 15 by 6 that will give you the number of 90 meters. If you hit the ball on the moon you will hit it 90 meters which is way off the court, and in fact, 90 is 4 times longer than the length of the court. That's why I think that they should change the dimensions of the court to a longer length and wider width, so the average balls wouldn't go so far.

                One thing that is a crucial thing to add, so this sport is playable are sunglasses that can zoom in at any range. This is important because if someone is like hundred meters away from you, you can't   really see a clear vision of what they are exactly gonna do. It would be very relevant and it would be much easier to see and they don't have to squint while they are playing. We should call it the mircoglass 1.0. This aspect of the sport doesn't really relate, but it's just the vision part of it. If we gotta put some gravity into this 'mircoglass 1.0' maybe we should make it, that it will always stay on your eyes and won't float or fall off your face.

                A rule that should change in tennis is the amount of bounces the ball can bounce before it goes pass the certain amount. The original rules is one bounce, and I think it should be change to 3 bounces, because you won't have time to go half of the court in less than 2 seconds, since the half of the court is 50 meters. However, on Earth if you would jump as far as you could, on average your distance would be 1.93 meters, well at least my distance.  On the moon if you did the same thing you would jump as far 11.58 meters! That is 1/5 of the half court, which means they would be able to hit the ball on time without surpassing the rules. It's funny how in space tennis would be a jumping game rather than a running game, but it still has the same purpose. 

             To wrap this up, the thing that should change is one of the most important object to play this sport. If you didn't have this object, you can't play the sport, and this object is the ball, the small, yellow bouncy ball. Instead of having the inside be only rubber,  the ball should be something different. Since if you throw or hit an object, it will just go to its direction depending how and where it was hit. The ball should have a piece of technology that is built in the ball, which has a remote control, so the player can control where the ball is going to go. In the other hand, the racket will have a sensor so you could control the ball, and no matter what the gravity it is you could move it easily. Basically the ball would be soft on the outside, and metallic on the inside. 

             Tennis, tennis is the sport that would be very fun if it is played in space. Yes, some of the equipments and rules are changed. However that doesn't change how much fun this sport is actually is. To generalize it, it is possible to play all your favorite sport in space but some rules, equipments needs to be modified to make it work in space.

DES51's Adventure Ended

After finishing of our project and doing some finishing touches to our lander. Our class finally was ready to drop the eggs containing in our lander. Here is the final lander, the only thing is that the strings wasn't knotted yet, but other than that it is the same lander.

        Basically we had three drops our lander needs to survive in. First, was the stairs, second was the  and Rotunda, and the last drop was in the Roof of the School Building. All the links are hyperlinked to the words that I said in the top.
As you guys saw if you watched all three videos, all the drops that we did, survived. It was amazing of how it cracked a little in the stair drop. Then in the rotunda it didn't crack, but when it came to the roof, our egg cracked big time. Fortunately the egg survived with an earthquake on the sides of the egg, with no liquid surrounding the egg.
 Overall, the egg survived the adventures of the cliffs and still is alive till this only day. This of course, had some science behind this lander. First of all, according to the picture in the first paragraph as you see there is a parachute and under the pocket where we place the egg we placed a thin cardboard piece to act like a second parachute, that's mainly why it worked. The bamboo sticks on the sides also help the lander stay stable the whole time. It worked because our group really stuck together like a chain, and it never got broken. It was like a miracle because, when you watch the roof video really carefully you'll that when the lander impact the ground there was a loud sounder from the lander. I even heard it from the roof, for a second I thought DES 51 was dead. When my teammate took it out from the pocket the egg survived with a lot of scratches and scars. This indicates of how much effort he put in his adventure, to reach this far and to wit stand the fall from the cliff of TAISM.

Egg Drop #4 Day 4

Today my group got all the things together and we organized all of the things. After we did that we started to get all of our materials and started crafting the lander. That took us atleast half the class, after we did that we did some finishing touches to our test model and checked it if it is stable. 

          

When we tried our lander, unfortunatly the parachute made the whole thing collapse when we dropped it. Luckily nothin severely broke, good thing we know why our lander flipped in the middle of the air, and why he parachute did open up normally. Form that data we now know what to improve and what to make it more stabilized.

                                                    Air Resistance

Air Resistance is basically things that make the Air go through a certain point of something. Like for example if I have a ball, it will have less air resistance than if I have a ball in a box. The ball will go faster because it has less air resistance than the other desgin. You can make the air resistance higher by changing the shape of the object with other materials. That why parachute is a really good example for air resistance.

If we did our lander from all kind of heights, some heights won't work and some will, because according to our latest trial, ours broke from a quite short distance. If we do it from a high place the parachute has more time to pop up and do its job, that's why in our case, our will pop up at a time that is not to slow and not to fast. After we fox the parachute and make it more balanced. In conclusion, I think the slowest height won't have a really good result, but a higher height will.

Egg Drop #3 Day 3

Today our group was working on our lander and we named it DES 58. We finally bought all the stuff we need to complete the lander. While Shreyaansh was buying the remaining stuff, Eli and I was working on the worksheet. Then when there was time left we started building our lander and almost got the base done, but it was not yet finished. 

        Our goal for next class is to finish the lander and start testing the materials of the lander. Specfially the string and how long the string should be to land to the ground with the most amount of times. Hopefully we could do some flight test with the golf ball and be ready for the last day of the project, where we drop the egg from the roof of the Taism building. I Hope we finish all these bullet points for next class.

Egg drop #2 Day 2

Today in science we worked on our lander. First of all, we bought some of the stuff that we need for our lander. We bought some of the stuff because in case if we bought too much, that means we lost some money for unnessasary stuff. We all went to the store together, but our data writer, Shreyaansh, writes it. We did some measuring for all the materials so we get the stuff just right. 

           I was happy that we ended up in this moment, because we actually did the measuring so we can build our lander right away next class. Everyone in my group help in all the ways I could've thought, otherwise it was a very good progress.

          For the next class I hope we start constructing our lander so we could a test flight right away. I hope we make our lander as expected so we could get the most sturdiest lander. Before we do that we have to test the parachute and then do the finishing touches of the lander.

        I hope in this end of the project it will work. I can't wait to see all of the other ideas that my other classmates have. I hope that our egg will survive the sped that is caused from the roof, and will not crack. Good luck to all the other groups.

Egg Drop # 1 Introduction

 In class we started a project called the egg drop. Basically, we have group and we are TeamX who design the lander or anything. This purpose of this project is to see what our heads can really think of, and the creativity that we have. Not only that, also we do this to experience what's it's like to be in a tema and construct a object of our own. 

             As some of you remembered, NASA launch a rover called curiosity, curiosity didn't just land here and not break. Engineers needed to build a craft that will withstand the amount of speed and the impact to the ground of Mars.

This is the reason why we are doing this project, to see if we can use the five steps of engineering to create with a group to succeed our objectives. Speaking about the steps, first is Ask, second imagine, thrid plan, create, and finally improve. Other than this, the purpose is to experience what's it's like to be a team and create something together. My Group includes Shreyaansh, and Eli

          Today, every person in our group presented all our ideas for the base of the creation. We had some difficulties on the first ideas, but eventually he had figured out the best one that can withstand at least 10 drops. We named our Egg and hope he won't break in the end of the project. We also measured the materials that we are going to use so it is just right.

          I think we did a pretty good job if I say so myself. We did the small sketch and figured the sum of the budget. We completed what we wanted to complete so that's a mission done for us. Next class our goal would be to at least build the base as we wanted and make it perfect as possible. And of course, do some test fight so we can do some further improvements.

Global warming

The I believe has been discovered for a long time already, but the governments of this world is not trying that mi such to decreases the emmisions of Carbon Dioxide. See, global warming is basically the rising temperature of the the world, and even a crane of 2 degrees is a big change. It can cause climate change, which is a change in a wether pattern in that certain country. 

          I'm surprised that there are lots of effects if this warming of the earth keeps going, more and more of these effects will come into play and maybe will distort our planet. And I am concerned, with all the people in this family that can't handle what nature gives us. For example, global warmiing caused some of the ice melt, and that melting will increases each year. Shpea level rose will also be the outcome of this. All the countries that are below sea level, or next to the ocean will be drowned and demolished. More than 20 problems can be said just from this topic, imagine if we name more topics and let's see how much effect it will do to the earth.

         I think in the Future, this mess will eventually come into an end and will be normal as when it all started. We could use new energy, but not only new energy but alternative energy. We could use more 'green' materials for our buildings and other needs of our life.

         I am personal interested in geothermal and solar energy, because we have a lot of that in this world already. Solar energy comes from the sun high we have a infinite source of. Geothermal energy is basically energy that is from the water, pipes go trough very hot rocks under the crust and they pour water into the pipes and steam will be the output. Of course where the energy comes from is the generator which powers everything that needs power. I think all alternative energy is a good way to replace our every source right now. Coal and fossil fuels is the reason we have global warming.

         I hope that the human race will pick the right path for our future. Either stay on the fossil fuel we use and keep increasing the global warming. Or creating or at least increase our use of alternative energy and maintain a safe environment for the world. You can make a change, but not any change a change that can safe humanity.

Pigman Final

 Right now my group and I are finishing up this book, and doing our last post of The Pigman. Throughout this book I discovered some symbols that  means a lot to the book. I felt the end of the book really summed up the meaning of this book.

It was really sad of how its started off from the phone call, to the friends, bobo, then the party, then bobo died, and ends up that Pigman died too because of it. 

Some of the symbol that I found interesting is the zoo, because Mr.Pignati goes there very single day, just to cheer him up. Since Conchetta is dead, the zoo is like a place to go to if you're feeling depressed. Like for example in the beginning of this book, when the three of them became friends, they all went to the zoo to see Bobo and other features of the zoo. In the end of the book they all went there, and that's how it ended. The place where they became friends, and the place where they were sperated. The happiest hi, and the hardest good bye.

Another symbol I discovered is the Bobo's cage. It's like Lorraine and John is just no less then the baboon. They stay in that same spot for the whole story, too long until one of their best friends dies. They have no one else to blame of Mr.Pignati's death, the one to blame is themselves. 

I really liked this book, because people are to expect good and happy endings for books. This one was different in ended in a way that was very sad, and it reminds me that not all good books end in a happily ever after. 

Hockney Faces

For the past few weeks we started on a project containing are faces. First of all we took at least 20 photos and made all of the photos into black and white so we can have value into count. After we did that we played with the pictures in an app called Picollage, until we had this face of randomness with all angles stuck together. Like this: 

After we did this process, we printed this face on a big piece of paper specifically a A3 paper. Then we chose different parts of the rectangles to draw with pencil/graphite. I did four things to draw. I drew the eyes, shirt, nose, hair, and mouth.

This is one of the piece that I drew. I made three others containing the things I mentioned, but apparently I didn't take pictures. After all this, if we finished drawing all the components of this project , we used a styrofoam thing to elevate the piece of paper of our drawings. Then we glued the final product to a black peice of paper. And we're done. Before I show you my final product, I just wanted to tell you where this all started. It started from a guy named David Hockney.

He is known for his photo collages and paintings of Los Angeles swimming pools, David Hockney is considered one of the most experienced British artists of the 20th century. And it says that when he was a kid he really loved books and was interested in art in such a small age. He referred to his first paintings by the knowledge he has been thought and then later he made collages similar to this project. And my final product:

I think I did very well on the shading part of this project, and the reflection of the eye.  I think I should've work on not making those lines that can't be removed, which is caused by the wood part of the pencil. Overall I learned how to use tools, and how to make an eye. I really enjoyed this project along with talking those pictures. Hope you like it.

Test Blog Pigman

Mega And Hafsa are my partners

The Pigman Page 1-50

In class we are matched with reading buddies and we read a certain book. Our schedule is reading 25 pages each day, while making posts every 50 pages. Right now, three of us chose a book called The Pigman by the author named Paul Zindel. Before I read this book I got a gist of the book, and I  think it will have a high value.

One of the main parts of this section is that the girl and her friends have this thing called the telephone Marathon which is basically a game where the friends have to dial a random number and talk to that stranger for as long as they could. The girl was dialed on a very special man named Mr. Pignati and he promised to give them ten dollars for the "L and J fund charity"

The setting of this book mainly is in the interior of the characters' house, which I think the author did a very good job on picking that spot. I think that, because It really gets mood of secured and no one knows who's calling who. Unlike in a building of what sort.

And also the perspective of the book really catches the whole idea of the feeling of the characters. For example the girl has great feelings that this man is not just a normal man, a unodirnary man. The friends realize that this man is a very nice man. Some of my questions, Will the man find out that it is just a prank call? Will the man be a best of friends with the characters?. Last one Will Mr. Pigman benefit from the ten dollars that he gave to the charity?

End of Stargirl

In the course of two weeks I finally finished the book from Jerry Spinelli, titled Stargirl. To refresh our memories, our chose a book, and reading them. We already finished our third conversation/ discussions with our group. We read about 46 pages.

After Leo told Stargirl about the truth of she just being normal like everybody else. When I read this part I was really surprised that he said that to her and was thinking. What will happen to her? Will she come back? I kept on reading and observed that Leo found Stargirl, but she wasn't the Stargirl that everyone knew, she was Susan. I was so surprised that she changed just  because of Leo talking to her about being a normal girl. 

I knew that this Susan has the same inside personality as the Stargirl we knew from the very beginning of this amazing book. At this point Leo has just realized that he is officially Susan's Boy Friend. And big event is happening in this end of the school year. Called the State Contest, all the contestants give speeches and sees you is the best. The winner was Susan, she was very happy indeed. 

Three pages before she won she kept saying words like crowds, cheering etc. When I read that I was like, will it happen? They went to school and just found three people cheering for her. Which is way off from her expectation. 

The school year of this years has finally finished. Sadly Leo and Susan never met agian after summer. Leo keeps going to the school just to get the memories back, and he notices that now everyone was happy and cheerful and knew it was from the effect of Susan/Stargirl. It was Leo's birthday and he saw a present with a porcupine necktie.

I think the author did a very good job on ending the story. When he said 'porcupine necktie' all the readers knew that is was Stargirl, the girl that is different form everyone else. It makes me want to read more. So overall I think it was a very good book.

Entry Of Betrayal

Right now I have continued with the book and arrived about 3/4 of the book. I am right now, in page 138. I think the author did a very good job, so we could feel more tense to continue on with the book. I call this area of the book the 'Betrayal Land'. I call it this way because in my experience every book has a area that contains this subject.

So far I have found two symbols that make up this story. The first one is The ukulele. The second one that I am going to tell you is not really sure able, but it always pops out every now and then. It is the landscape of the desert and mountains. I chose this because when Stargirl and Leo Goes out their first destination is this place.

 Their friend relationship became even stronger every time they hang out. Leo now knows a lot about the girl that he is following everywhere. Both of them had an 'adventure' through the houses, and played games, but of course accompanied by their good friend Cinammon. Leo realizes that weekends is the most precious thing.

Days passed by and now almost everyone rarely talks to Leo. Because they saw a phrase saying Stargirl loves Leo. Since that day Leo felt different and wanted to tell the truth to Stargirl. He said that she never cares about what another people are thinking, and he told her just to be like everyone else. Stargirl likes to be different, and Leo told her that They hated her because of that. Then about 2 days later Stargirl Vanished.

Entry 11-19

I continued to read Stargirl from page 47-100, lots of important things happen in this area of the book. Key events in the book will open up and every secret will be unlocked. Currently we already finished our first meeting of the book and I heard many good thoughts from my partners. We discussed of how this Stargirl changes and her characteristics through out the first eleven chapters. 

Stargirl kept being herself by cheering for the other team, but this time for the MAHS basketball team, also called, The Electrons. She kept doing that for a long time until the team breezed thought the season undeafeated. Leo noticed that Stargirl's reactions to the team and the team on the opposite side, made the people around her annoyed to Stargirl's happiness.

One of the symbols I found through this story is the Ukulele. This object plays an important role in the story. In my opinion, every time she feels happy or is in a good mood she plays her ukulele. When after people got annoyed to her happy reactions she didn't play her ukulele anymore.

Leo is also a very important role for this book. This guy is like a shadow because he has neither side of Stargirl's nor The people. When Stargirl gave Leo the note saying, 'I Love You' he felt shaky, and wanted to know her more. Then he realized that deep inside his heart he wants to be closer to her, know her more and know stuff that other people don't. 

Leo and Stargirl became very good friends. After a while Kevin, Leo's best friend, found that He and Stargirl were hanging out s lot and  told him that there was something wrong with Stargirl. Leo is still confused why. And after that day no one ever interacted with the both of them agian. I think one time in the book it will show how this change will be benefit for the future.

Entry 1-11

Right Now, our class is focusing on discussing on a certain of books. We all a book from the options our teacher gave us, including Pigman, Stargirl and Mr. Breavery. From these three book I found the title Stargirl really interesting to me, and I've made my choice to read this for this unit. And she divides us into Groups and we have a meetings after we've read a certain amount of pages.

First thing that happened was in a school called Mica Area High School. Everyone there was having a normal life then storming through the hallways, there were rumors that there is a new girl at school, and everyone is already suspicious by her name that people call Stargirl. Every lunch break she would bring her ukulele and sang happy birthday, she would do different thing than others would, she is like a red leaf upon piles of orange leaves. A girl named Hillari Kimble doesn't really like Stargirl, because I think she gets all the attention rather than her.

Then there was a football game where no one rarely comes, but there were some people including Stargirl, while it was halftime of the game she acted like no one is watching her, running, dancing. She made smiles on people's faces, since that game everyone inspired themselves to go to be entertained by Stargirl, now thousands came to football games just because of one.

Day by day she made the whole school more excited to go to school to see what Stargirl is up to. She changed the whole school in a positive way, and now everyone is talking about her and is popular. But there are some few things that she has change that might lead to bigger problems, including The Pledge of Allegiance, the Girsdale Funeral and the Danny Affair. 

All About the Hand

This project we created a art project that our class called 'All About the hands'. We started by drawing blind contour drawings with a duration of two minutes each. We made approximately 6 hands, but he had to pick our 3-4 most favorite hand. Then we traced the hands, and started on our background for this project. We placed value into play in this project, combined with shapes of our interest.  We mainly focused on drawing dark to light which makes is more 'alive', and the importance of lines, but lastly the way we use color. 

            

  When I completed my final product, I realized that the green lines next to the blue circle made the 'nature' side more nature. And also, I am glad that I put the lighting strike next to the green triangle on the left top corner. 

           

  One of the thing I would change is the line that sperates the two dimensions, I should've left the line with no geometric shapes. Another thing is that I could've made the lighting strike more spread out.

Art Expectations

Art is a very important ingredient of life. It can express feelings without words, and people will inspire your artwork. In class we will have to respect all the materials and belongings of the class, also your classmate's stuff. We should bring all materials to art class. We try to do risky things to always get better and push ourselves. We have to accept criticism from our classmates and learn from the mistakes we've made. But the most important thing is to have fun.

Chicken Dissection

In this video you'll see the operation of dissecting a raw chicken wing. This was my  first time dissecting an animal. This experience was a good one, and my classmate and I did a very decent job on getting right into the meat. Good thing I had an expert of skinning animals. First of all we did skinned the animal then we did some cleaning. After that we explored the meat of the animal, and we tired to cut all the blood vessels in the wing. In the  end we ended up with two pieces of meat.
